This is what the Non-profit that I intern for’s office looks like right now. The details are in the click through (and also in that link), but essentially an electrical fire swept through the floor on Sunday morning. I have no idea what the state of things is - what’s salvageable vs what’s destroyed, but as you can see, the ceiling is on my boss’s desk. This is a bad thing.
Young Playwrights, Inc. has served the theater community for thirty years running education, outreach, and enrichment for playwrights under the age of eighteen. While many other theater companies have opportunities for young playwrights, YPI is the only theater company in the United States specifically dedicated to young playwrights. As in, it’s all they do.
Young Playwrights, Inc runs a national conference every January that allows between eight and twelve young playwrights from across the country to come to New York City and workshop their plays for free. Some of these young playwrights could never afford to attend if the festival had to charge, and that certainly isn’t an option now. However, with the main office and rehearsal space out of commission for the for the foreseeable future, they’re going to need a lot of help to make this year’s conference happen, as well as to continue to provide amazing opportunities for young writers in the New York metropolitan area. .
There’s more information in the click-through link, but if you can spare any change or know someone in New York City who might be able to lend them a rehearsal space or provide other services, like clean up or remodeling, please please please contact the email adress listed in the click-through.
I have never asked for a signal-boost before, but if you could all please, please, please reblog it would mean so much to me. Not only is YPI really, really close to my heart, but over the years hundreds if not thousands of young artists have benefitted from their services. Please help them to continue helping develop and encourage these amazing young talents! Every little bit helps, and even if you can’t give, just getting the word out to people who can help would be amazing.
